Caoxieshan added to list of national archaeological parks

The National Cultural Heritage Administration of China recently announced its latest list and initiation projects of national archaeological parks. The Archaeological Site Park of Caoxieshan in Suzhou 草鞋山遗址was included in the list, becoming the only entry in Jiangsu province.

Covering 402,000 square meters, including a protected area of 199,000 square meters and a construction control area of 203,000 square meters, the Archaeological Site Park of Caoxieshan reconstructs the prehistoric civilization and human history in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

The park has received over 12,000 visitors since its opening in last June. Dubbed “the yardstick of prehistoric civilization in Jiangnan” and “the home of rice cultivation culture,” the site has seen multiple excavations, which have produced fruitful results. The eighth archaeological excavation was launched last November.
