The Belt and Road Int’l Cultural Festival kicks off in Suzhou

The Belt and Road International Cultural Festival opened in Suzhou campus of Renmin University of China中国人民大学(苏州校区) recently.

The one-month festival includes an exhibition on traditional Chinese culture, appreciation of international movies, Chinese and foreign culture exchange salons, a cultural carnival, a competition on world culture, a closing ceremony and an award ceremony.

The exhibition on traditional Chinese culture was held to demonstrate Suzhou intangible cultural heritages such as kesi, a traditional silk-weaving technique in Suzhou, Suzhou embroidery, Song brocade, and fruit pit carving as well as festivals in different countries such as Brazil, Russia, Georgia, and Ghana where the students at Silk Road School come from.

In order to actively respond to the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China, the Silk Road School was co-established by Renmin University of China and Suzhou municipal government in 2018. The School has cultivated nearly 200 international talents fond of China from 62 BRI participants, who are now in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, telling China’s stories and making China’s voice heard.
