In modern China (1840 – 1949), the country was beaten and battered, Yazi was enthusiastically amongst the very first. He led the South Society (the largest literature and poetry organization during the late Qing Dynasty China and the early period of Republican China), and had long presided over the editing and social affairs of “Congke of South Society (the official magazine of the society)”. He used poetry and prose to revitalize the trend of revolution, composed more than 7,000 poems in his life, and eulogized “new thoughts” with “old poems”.
