Suzhou to be connected with Pudong Airport by railway

The preliminary design of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway Phase II was approved by China Railway, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government recently.

Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway Phase II

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway started operations on July 1, 2020. Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang, which are all under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, have been connected to the Yangtze River Delta railway network. It is part of the many efforts to promote the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region.

Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway Phase II will include 106.785 kilometers of newly built railway lines with a designated speed of 200 km/h. The whole construction is expected to take five years.

Its main line will be equipped with six operational stations, i.e. Taicang Railway Station, Xuhang Railway Station, Shanghai Baoshan Railway Station, Waigaoqiao Railway Station, Shanghaidong Railway Station, and Situan Railway Station, and two stations in reserve, i.e. Caolu Railway Station and Huinan Railway Station. Besides, a connecting line will be built to link Taicangnan Railway Station with Lujiabang Railway Station.

Upon its completion, Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway Phase II will enter Shanghai from the north and reach Pudong New Area. Shanghai Pudong International Airport will be included in the railway network for the first time.
