Introducing Citywalk routes in Suzhou

The Humble Administrator’s Garden拙政园 and Lion Grove Garden狮子林 are among the four renowned classical gardens in Suzhou. The former is currently the biggest one preserved in the city while the latter is hailed as the “Kingdom of Rockery.

The checkerboard layout, with rivers running next to streets, is a feature of Pingjiang Road平江路. You will walk past many Suzhou-style small stores and find assorted snacks and delicacies.

Of all the classical gardens in the city, the Couple’s Retreat Garden耦园 is the only one where lovebirds can register their marriage.

As the highest pagoda in the ancient city area, the 76-meter Beisi Pagoda北寺塔 is hailed as the “No. 1 Ancient Pagoda in Jiangnan.”

Suzhou Silk Museum苏州丝绸博物馆 encompasses History Hall, Modern Hall, Children’s Science Education Hall, Sangzi Yuan, Silk Weaving Machinery Exhibition Room, and Qian Xiaoping Silk Art & Culture Gallery.

Visitors can appreciate works by artists in the city and learn the stories of famous historical figures of the city at Suzhou Art Museum苏州美术馆 and Suzhou Celebrity Museum苏州市名人馆. Currently, an exhibition on the collection of Suzhou Art Museum is being held. Those who are interested can go and take a look.

Yiyuan Garden→Canglang Pavilion→Keyuan Garden→Suzhou Museum of Inscribed Stone Tablets→Shihu Scenic Area

Since its founding in the Qing Dynasty, Yiyuan Garden怡园 is a hybrid of many other classical gardens. Its double corridors come from that in Canglang Pavilion, rockery from Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty, and land boat from Humble Administrator’s Garden.

Canglang Pavilion沧浪亭 is the oldest classical garden preserved in Suzhou. Keyuan Garden可园, separated from the Canglang Pavilion by a river, is academy-like.

The Suzhou Museum of Inscribed Stone Tablets (Confucian Temple of Suzhou)苏州碑刻博物馆 is acclaimed as the Top of Academies in Jiangnan.

The Shihu Lake石湖 is a tributary of the Taihu Lake. There are many bridges and rivers in the scenic area, which is suitable for walking to enjoy the beautiful spring.
